For starters, the French are the shit. Generally speaking, they are cultural, have an incredible taste in fashion and food, and are typically talented in any genre in the art world. Statistically, they are raked the highest in healthcare, attain one of the largest economies by nominal GDP, and live secularly, seeing freedom of religion as a constitutional right. It's no wonder then, that France would produce Francoise Hardy. By the time she was 17 she had already signed a contract with the record label Vogue. One year later she had $2 million in sales from her albums. She's worked with musical icons like Iggy Pop, Bob Dylan and Malcom McLaren, has been dressed by Andre Courreges, and was found Mick Jaggers "ideal woman" in the 60's. In addition she speaks 5 different languages and has been an astrologer for the last 20 years. Not bad for being brought up by a single mother supporting her two daughters with minimal support from the father...

Cat Power (a.k.a. Chan Marshall) is easily one of my "top 5" greatest influences. Her breathy, deep vocals and poetical lyrics brings such eloquent nuance to her music. Unlike most acclaimed celebrities she has this sincere candor. Boldly unmasking her personal life without hesitation has allowed admirer's to identify and relate to her suffering. This candor, in addition to her artistic talents and sensational fashion easily makes her my Euterpe (Greek musical muse).

Do you believe in love at first website? I fell in love the moment I came across Morgan Blair and her rad website. A graduate from the Rhode Island school of Design (RISD), Morgan is currently living in Bushwick, Brooklyn. With a fresh sense of perspective, her style is just what our generation needs. She has such a sick way of realism mixed with neon geometrical shapes and pattern, placed strategically, yet seeming so careless. Not to mention the staggering backgrounds on her website make you addicted instantaneously.

When Alex ( http://www.alexmcadoo.com ) came back from Washington, he brought back a few movies his friend Dave Maiefski (view his art on their blog, http://www.piecesofbrains.blogspot.com ) gave to him. Within the collection lay the most inspirational movie I've yet to see. The film, directed by Aaron Rose, was made in 2007. It includes some of the most influential street artists of our D.I.Y. (do it yourself) generation. The art that they began creating themselves, has literally transformed our culture. These artists helped begin a movement which is finally bridging artists with todays youth. Let me know what you think!

Julie Budet began Yelle (an acronym for YEL- you enjoy life) in 2005 with producer Grandmarnier. She gained fame off myspace after posting the Je Veux Te Voir video, which mocks Cuizinier- a member of TTC, a Parisian Hip-Hop group. With girl-on-girl, sex toys and boy lamented lyrics, Yelle has a lot more to offer than her uber-80's steeze and pumped up electro beats (which would be enough on its own :)).
